Farwest curtails daily flights from Vegas<br>

Grand Canyon Railway announced Monday it is stopping its daily travel packages from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon.

A press release issued on the matter states it is “a move that will allow both companies to concentrate resources on core markets.”

“We investigated opportunities with more immediate and profitable return on investment and decided it was time for Farwest Airlines to focus on the charter airline business and Grand Canyon Railway to focus on the tourist railroad business,” said Tom Ripp, GCRY vice president of sales.

Jerry Thull, GCRY public relations manager, said the change will give Farwest more flexibility.

“Now the airlines will not just fly from Las Vegas to the Canyon,” Thull said. “This allows Farwest to broaden to regional air service.”

Farwest Airlines flies four-engine de Havilland Dash 7 aircraft with room for 50 passengers. The pressurized aircraft will be used to provide charter air service throughout the western United States. Northern Arizona and the Grand Canyon will remain an important focus for the airline.

GCRY’s normal operation will not be affected by the changing relationship with Farwest Airlines. The historic railway will continue to offer daily service to the Grand Canyon.

Farwest Airlines and GCRY will continue to provide air-rail getaways to the Grand Canyon for group charters.
