Holiday food

drive continues

GCNP — The Grand Canyon Food Basket Drive, in its fifth season, provides families and individuals with holiday food baskets for Christmas.

The food drive committee seeks help finding individuals and families in Grand Canyon Village, Tusayan or Valle who would like and deserve a basket.

The committee solicits local businesses to suggest employees or families who may enjoy a basket. Businesses and individuals will also be asked to support the drive with cash donations.

Donation checks should be made out to Grand Canyon Food Drive. Delaware North Park Services gift certificates are included to purchase additional food items not included in the baskets. Food baskets will be delivered Dec. 18.

For anyone who knows a person or family who may deserve a holiday food basket, contact Paul Kinnison at 638-2790.

Christmas tree

TUSAYAN — Personal-use Christmas tree tags for the Tusayan Ranger District on Kaibab National Forest are available for sale through Dec. 22.

Jerry Payne, Tusayan District ranger, said the tags are left over from the Christmas Tree Sale by Mail program. Although the tags will be available in Williams and at Tusayan, these Christmas trees are only available on the Tusayan Ranger District.

Maps and Christmas tree tags cost $10 per tree and will be available at the Tusayan and Williams district offices as well as the Williams Visitor Center.

Payne reminds everyone to drive safely when going out on the Tusayan Ranger District and to remember that many roads can be soft and muddy.

Also, he advises people to carry emergency supplies in their vehicle, such as extra blankets, chains and shovels and to always let someone know their whereabouts and expected time of return.

• Williams Ranger District — Weekdays, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Act now to use

school tax credit

GCNP — Local residents interested in helping the school through the state’s school tax credit need to pick up forms by Dec. 21, the superintendent’s office said.

Arizonans can contribute up to $200 to public schools for extracurricular activities and then deduct that amount directly from their state income taxes through a tax credit.

Credits are limited to $200 per individual or married taxpayers filing join returns.

Credits are not available to businesses. Contributions cannot be used for normal school operations.

Credits are available for up to $200 in tax liability. Contributors with liability less than $200 can only get the credit up to that amount.

Contributors choose where they want their money to go: elementary (K-8) or high school, and for which activity: athletics, music, art, field trips or clubs.

Forms for the tax credit and the donation need to be postmarked on Dec. 31 or sooner. If not mailed, they need to be in the district office by Dec. 21.

For more information or to obtain a form, visit the district office or call 638-2461.

Or write: Grand Canyon Schools, P.O. Box 519, Grand Canyon, AZ 86023.
