Spartans top Vikings, ranked second in state
ASH FORK, Ariz. - The Ash Fork Spartans baseball team beat the Williams Vikings 6-3 April 19 showing why they are ranked at the top of the Division V state rankings.
Despite a home-run by Vikings Tate Grantham, the Vikings could not pull ahead of the Spartans in the neighborhood game.
Spartans Ashton Atkinson and Cesar Acosta also had one home run each during the game.
Atkinson and Damian Quijada went two for three at the plate for the Spartans.
Carston Brinkworth, Tate Grantham and Ethan Johnson went one for three.
Atkinson pitched seven innings and had 19 strikeouts, gave up five hits and three runs.
Christian Ramirez pitched six innings and had eight strikeouts, gave up nine hits and had six runs.
Ash Fork is second in Division V rankings with a 14-2 record. They are tied with Bagdad.
Williams is tenth in Division V rankings with a 10-5 record.
The Vikings had one more regular season game against Bagdad April 26 before state playoffs begin.
The Spartans had two more games before state playoffs. They faced Hopi and Telesis Prep April 26.
The Lady Vikings beat the Lady Spartans 12-2 April 19 in Ash Fork.
The Lady Vikings are second in Section III with a 5-2 record in section play. They are ranked 16 in Division V with a 10-6 record.
The Lady Vikes faced Bagdad April 26 in their final regular season game.
The Lady Spartans are 34 in Division V with a 5-9 record. They are ranked eighth in Section III with a 1-6 record in section play.
The Lady Spartans played Hopi and Telesis Prep April 26.
