Williams Fire Department open house a success
WILLIAMS, Ariz. - Despite the cold and rainy conditions, Williams Fire Department (WFD) had a successful open house Oct. 4.
"It was National Fire Prevention Week and we enjoyed the opportunity to engage the community, especially the kids," said Fire Chief Chase Pearson.
Pearson noted that this year's event was a regional effort and included representation from Junipine, Sherwood Forest and High Country Fire Departments.
The event included displays of the departments fire fighting apparatus, fire fighting clothing and tools. The department also disseminated fire prevention information and distributed brand new smoke detectors.
Attendees were also able to sign up for the Williams U.S. Flag distribution program.
Fire Prevention Officer Ryan Kopicky reported that 15 smoke detectors were distributed to residents. Old Trails True Value and Allstate Insurance supported this year's event and donated the smoke detectors.
Kopicky advised residents of the importance of fire prevention as the weather begins to get cold.
"In the winter months, our heating, lighting, cooking and holiday activities increase dramatically and with them, the risk of residential fires," Kopicky said.
Anyone in need of a smoke detector may contact the WFD at (928) 635-4452 ext. 227.
