Five local teens injured in rollover on Garland Prairie Road
WILLIAMS, Ariz. - Five local teenagers were injured in a rollover accident on Garland Prairie Road Nov. 2.
According to the Coconino County Sheriff's Office (CCSO), the five high school students were traveling on Forest Road 141 around 4:30 p.m. when the driver lost control of the vehicle on a curve.
"The teens are all between 15 and 16 years old," said CCSO spokesperson Erika Wiltenmuth.
The Sheriff's Office has not released the names of the teenagers involved in the accident.
All five of the teens were injured and transported to Flagstaff Medical Center. Two Life Line ambulances, two Guardian Air helicopters and one parent transported the teens to the hospital.
"The report has not been finalized," Wiltenmuth said. "But it sounded like there was overcorrection and loss of control of the vehicle and it rolled."
A parent on scene reported that a passenger of the vehicle was able to use a cell phone to call 911.
Wiltenbuth said High Country Rescue, Life Line, Guardian Air, CCSO deputies and several parents were on the scene quickly.
Wiltenbuth said the teens have various injuries including spinal fractures, head injuries, lacerations and bruising. She was not sure whether the teens had been released from the hospital yet.
"I do know the officer interviewed each one of them the following day," Wiltenmuth said. "Some of them don't recall exactly what happened. Each one gives a different estimation of their speed."
Wiltenmuth said it could be several days before the final report is released. The officers are using a scene analysis tool to recreate the accident. She said officers are not sure how many people in the car used a seatbelt, but that some of the teens were likely ejected from the vehicle. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
