Williams Middle School (WMS) started a new cross country team this year, coached by Lela Schober. Maine Consolidated School played host to the team's first event Sept. 25. Six teams with 150 runners competed including teams from Williams, Maine and four from Flagstaff.

Running took place on a trail adjacent to the Maine School. Participants looped a one-mile trail through the Ponderosa Pines for a total of 2 miles.

Junior varsity girls ran first. The WMS Junior varsity girls team includes sixth graders Cassidy Kearly, Madison Olson, Maegan Ford and Ana Benitez, and seventh-grader Mahala Schmitz. Eighth-grader Kyler Edens ran in the junior varsity boys division, followed by the varsity runner, Brandon Tully.
