Organizers have decided on a home for The Williams Own Veterans Memorial.

The statue will go at the west end of Monument Park. A dedication ceremony will take place in early to mid September.

"We've been working on it for a couple of years," said Mayor John Moore. "It's nice to know it's going to come to fruition in September."

While organizers have collected enough money for the statue part, they are still collecting money for the site. They hope to have park benches and landscaping, a flag for each military branch and round plaques for each military branch, which will go on the base of the statue.

The sculpture will be on display for the Run for the Wall, a motorcycle trip from California to Washington D.C. to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The group will pass through Williams tomorrow. The American Legion, the Matthew James Broehm Veterans of Foreign Wars post, and the Williams Kiwanis Club will help serve breakfast to the group at Wild West Junction, Rod's Steakhouse and Twisters.

Sculptor Neil Logan was putting the finishing touches on the sculpture last week. He will take the sculpture to the foundry Friday or Saturday, where it will stay for a couple of months.

"It'll come back a piece of metal," he said. "We'll never see the clay again."
