Corrine Garcia Olague Jojola

Corrine Olague Jojola, 91, passed away on December 20, 2012 at Kindred Hospital in La Miranda, Calif. She was born on Oct. 28, 1921 in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, N.M. to Maximillano and Jesusita Gonzalez Garcia. She is preceded in death by her parents Maximillano and Jesusita and her brothers and sisters Margaret, Henry, Alice, Henry, Maximillano, Santiago, Lucy and Maximillano II. She is survived by her brother Elmer Garcia of Goodyear, Ariz.

Corrine and her family moved from Albuquerque to Winslow, Ariz. during the Great Depression. Her father left the farm and became employed with the Santa Fe Railroad. A few years later, Corrine and her family relocated to Ashfork, Ariz. She attended school there with her brothers and sisters. She later married Arthur P. Olague and tended to her family during World War II. She had two sons born while in Ashfork: Anthony Eugene and Timothy Art. Corrine became a participating member of St. Anne's Catholic Church and parish. Taking care of her family and being involved in her sons' lives were her top priority. Corrine loved her community and also became an active member of the Ashfork Historical Society. She enjoyed reminiscing and sharing her knowledge of the railroad era of Winslow and Ashfork with others.

In 1962, Corrine and her family relocated to Williams, Ariz. She worked for Babbitt Brothers and enjoyed working for the polls during elections. Her third son, Michael Paul, was born in Williams. Anthony was already in the military and later Timothy and Michael followed. Corrine was very proud of her family's service to our country.

In the 1970s, Corrine moved to Pico Rivera, Calif. Here she joined her other sisters and their families. She soon remarried to Harold Jojola and began to enjoy the city lifestyle. She enjoyed getting together with her family and sharing her recipes and cooking techniques. She and Harold attended many family events from weddings to Quinceaneras. Corrine enjoyed traveling and researching family genealogy. Their travels throughout the southwest helped to update more information for her journals. She soon became the family historian. Corrine's love of writing continued. She was one of the founding members of the Pico Rivera Writing Club. Family and friends will always treasure her writings.

Corrine is survived by her husband Harold Jojola; her sons Anthony Eugene Olague (Christina) of Parker, Ariz., Timothy Olague of Chino Hills, Calif. and Michael Olague of Las Vegas; grandchildren Janiene Speakman of Portland, Ore. and Brett Olague of Chino Hills; and three great grandchildren: Shannon, Brenden and Makenna.

She also leaves behind her stepchildren Gloria (Sal) Gutierrez and Nancy Meister both of Los Angeles, Calif.; Susan Jojola Negron of Bellflower, Calif. and Ron (Concha) Jojola of Upland, Calif. along with nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

The funeral mass was held at St. Hilary's Catholic Church in Pico Rivera on December 28, 2012. Internment was at Resurrection Cemetery in Monterey Park, Calif.
