The Lady Vikings beat Ash Fork 31-19 Dec. 10 in Ash Fork giving the team a 3-4 record for the season and a 1-2 PowerPoint record.
A game against Rancho Solano was canceled last week because Rancho Solano does not have enough girls to field a team this year.
Head coach Phillip Echeverria said that while the Lady Vikings did not have their full team on the floor they did play some pretty good basketball against Ash Fork.
"Our defense held them to 19 points and we scored 31 ourselves," Echeverria said. "I was impressed with the way we shot the ball from the outside. We made three 3-pointers, which is probably a high for us so far."
He said the Lady Vikes are starting to take more shots although rebounding is still causing his players trouble.
"We've got to work harder at rebounding the basketball but I was real proud of the victory," Echeverria said.
Gabby Giunta scored a team high 12 points. Tyria Harvy and Andrea Hernandez scored six points and Miranda Velazco scored five.
"We had four kids who scored," Echeverria said. "We'd like to see those kids score, if they could average around eight points apiece, which is four baskets a game, which would be one a quarter. That doesn't seem like very much, but it's just a bunch for girls basketball. That would be ideal."
The Lady Vikes play against Mayer on Thursday in Mayer and take on Tempe Prep on Friday at home. They will play in the Camp Verde Tournament Dec. 27-28.
