New owners breathe new life into Williams historic house
Historic details to be retained as house undergoes major renovation
WILLIAMS, Ariz. - The vacant house on the corner of Grant Avenue and Sixth Street is currently undergoing a complete overhaul. The house was recently purchased and will be restored and refurbished in the next year. The home, which has been owned by the same family for 112 years, is now in the hands of John and Kerry-Lynn Moede of Williams and Phoenix.
Kerry-Lynn will spearhead the effort, making sure to maintain as much of the home's history as possible. She said she is very interested in the historical aspects of the property and hopes to do justice to the beautiful home and landscape.
"People have been so kind, stopping by to ask questions and offer information and support," Moede said. "I really feel this will be a town project, not just 'our' project."
According to Moede, the house will need to be gutted to the studs in order to replace insulation, wiring and plumbing, but the bones are intact and things like the beautiful wood floors will be saved.
By cleaning out the house and out-buildings, the couple has learned much about the family who made this home. Letters between family members during World War II revealed a loving family and the hardships of war.
Moede is saving the memorabilia and plans to share it with the library so that others might enjoy them, too.
"This is a huge undertaking, but I am having such fun," she said. "To save a slice of William's history, is truly an honor. We sincerely appreciate having the opportunity."
