Wanted: your drugs on Saturday

The Williams Police Department and the Williams Lions Club is offering a Prescription Drug Take Back event 10 a.m.-2p.m. Saturday at the Williams-Forest Service Visitor Center parking lot, 200 W. Railroad Ave. Residents are encouraged to drop off expired, unused and unwanted pills free of charge, no questions asked. The pills will be disposed of properly.

Golf tournament benefits youth football

Fill the Williams Food Bank van

Come out on Mother's Day Weekend during the Third Annual National Train Day at the Grand Canyon Railway loop area and help the Williams-Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce help our community.

The chamber is challenging all local residents, visitors and train buffs to come out and help fill the Williams Food Bank van with food. The Grand Canyon Railway, the Williams-Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce and Williams Food Bank have partnered together to hold this event in conjunction with the Third Annual National Train Day Weekend on May 12 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and May 13 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Admission to the event is free. There will be activities, tractors, hayrides, classic cars and opportunities to ride the Cataract Creek Rambler.

All those who donate to the Food Bank Van will receive a raffle ticket for an exciting prize. The van will be collecting items for the Williams Food Bank on both days.

Free transportation for cancer patients

The American Cancer Society is offering free round-trip transportation to Flagstaff Medical Cancer Center for any patient that needs a ride to treatment. Any cancer patient in need of transportation to treatment or anyone that wants to volunteer should call (928) 214-2800, ext. 12231.

Newly elected Kaibab Estates West Fire Board sworn in April 11

At a special meeting held on April 11, the newly elected Kaibab Estates West(KEW) Fire District Board was sworn in by Jim Pond, KEW Fire District Administrator. After being sworn in, the new board consisting of Carol Miller (two-year term), Bob Wilkins (four-year term), Pat Whitted (four-year term), George Wallace (two-year term) and Doug Gorniak (four-year term) were given training for Arizona Open Meeting Law by Bill Whittington, the board's attorney.

Also in attendance was Carl Taylor, Coconino County Supervisor. Due to the special election cycle, Carol Miller and George Wallace will be re-running for the board during the November elections and the rest of the board will be re-running during the November 2014 elections.

Ponderosa Fire seeks two citizens for positions

The Ponderosa Fire District (PFD) Board of Directors is committed to citizen involvement in the fire district's strategic planning process. Currently there are two openings for citizen positions on PFD's Strategic Planning Committee. One person from Bellemont and one person from Parks are needed.

This committee is an advisory panel that makes planning recommendations relating to future growth of the fire department. Community committee members will serve a two year term. Interested community members must live within the fire district boundaries at the time of their appointment, and for the full duration of term on the committee.

To apply, pick up an application Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fire Station 82 in Bellemont, call (928) 773-8933 to request an application be sent to you, or email susa.kelley@ponderosafire.org.

The deadline for applications is June 15.

Shooting range open Saturdays

The Williams Sportsman's Club (WSC) will have the city shooting range open for members shooting and target practice Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. as staffing and weather allows. Please check the club's website at www.williamssportsmansclub.org for possible closures, weekday openings, extended hours, special events, etc. A Range Safety Officer (RSO) will be present to coordinate activities. Please check in with the RSO upon arrival. Targets are available at the range for a small donation, or bring your own. Membership forms are available on the website or call the membership director, Vicki Andros, at 635-1420.

Diabetes support offered May 3

The Williams Diabetes Support Group will meet at 10 a.m. May 3 at the Williams Senior Center, 850 W. Grant Ave. Larry and Rose Marie Rincon will share the top five ways to take control of diabetes. The meeting is free.

Fly a kite for free

The Williams Neighborhood Group will be hosting the Second Annual Spring Community Kite Festival 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Cureton Park. There will be free kites for the first 100 kids that arrive, as well as free food, fun, and games. Please call Sheila Krombeen at 635-0040 for more information.

Donate blood this week

United Blood Services is hosting a blood drive through Thursday at the Williams High School band room, 440 S. Seventh St.

Donate today 1-6 p.m. and tomorrow 8 a.m.-1 p.m. All donors in April and May will be entered into a drawing to win one of 60 pairs of round trip tickets aboard the Grand Canyon Railway.

Williams High Class of 2002 planning reunion

The Williams High School Class of 2002 is planning a reunion May 26 at Doc Holliday's Steakhouse, 950 N. Grand Canyon Blvd.

Cocktails and appetizers will be served 6-7 p.m. Dinner begins at 7 p.m. The cost is $20 per person at the door.
