Letter: Salvation Army needs bell ringers
To the editor:
You hear them on the street corners or outside stores. The sound is distinctive. It's the sound of hope. A sound of caring. It's the sound of the Salvation Army bell ringer heralding the season. As if a voice for the silent, the hurting, the Salvation Army bell rings out, declaring they're not forgotten.
You can help restore hope to the hopeless, bring comfort to the hurting and a respite to the weary by taking part in the Salvation Army effort. The Salvation Army offers many opportunities for you to make the season brighter for families and individuals in need.
The funds raised will be used to help people with utility payments, food, shelter, homeless assistance, senior and child care and other social needs. The Salvation Army in Williams is extremely low on funds and we count on the funds we raise from the holiday bell ringing to carry us through the rest of the year.
The Red Kettle Campaign will kick off the day after Thanksgiving and will run through Dec. 23. For more information or to sign up as a volunteer, contact me at 635-4503 or 600-3493.
Thank you in advance for your efforts in this great opportunity to help the less fortunate throughout the year.
