Comment period extended on Perrin Ranch Project

The deadline for comments on the environmental assessment (EA) for the Perrin Ranch Wind Energy Project has been extended. The new deadline is June 23, two days following the hearing before the Coconino County Board of Supervisors on NextEra's appeal of Condition Nine regarding the radar activated lighting.

The response period was extended because of a request by the Canyon Country Coalition that there be an opportunity to comment regarding any changes that could come about as a result of the appeal.

Copies of the EA are available online or at the Williams Library, 113 S. First St.

VFW meets tomorrow

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) will meet 6-7 p.m. tomorrow at the Williams Senior Center, 850 W. Grant Ave.

Please bring a copy of your DD214. If you do not have one, VFW can assist you in obtaining one. If you are a U.S. citizen and served in a conflict zone, Korea, 30 days consecutive or 60 days non-consecutive, or an area where you received hostile, fire/ emminent danger pay, then you are eligible to join. Spouses are also invited.

Ladies Auxiliary meets tomorrow

The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 13 meets at 6 p.m. tomorrow at the Legion Hall, 425 W. Grant Ave. Nominations and election for officers will be the topic of the meeting. Installation will occur tomorrow also. Any interested members are encouraged to attend.

Free youth fun tomorrow and Friday

The Williams Recreation Center will be closed due to the HOG Rally tomorrow and Friday; however, there is still free fun available tomorrow and Friday at Buckskinner Park. Both days, noon-5 p.m., youth are invited to enjoy a free barbecue, games and water wars.

Community garden open to all

Anyone interested in using one of the plots of the community garden, please contact Kris at (928) 863-2467 or Pat at (928) 635-2925.

All you have to do is plant, weed and water your area. The water is provided by St. John's. If you are not familiar with the community garden, come and see it on the corner of Second and Grant.

Writers meet Saturday

The Northern Arizona Writer's Group will be meeting at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Williams Library, 113 S. First St. Proof copies of the group's new anthology will be available.

Free transportation for cancer patients

The American Cancer Society is offering free round-trip transportation to Flagstaff Medical Cancer Center for any patient that needs a ride to treatment. Any cancer patient in need of transportation to treatment or anyone that wants to volunteer should call (928) 214-2800, ext. 12231.

Eat Navajo tacos, save animals

Eat Navajo tacos and help SAVE-Meant to Rescue (MTR) raise funds. All proceeds benefit SAVE-MTR and will be used to build an animal shelter in the future.

Navajo tacos will be sold 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday at the Sultana Theater, 301 W. Route 66. Enjoy savory Navajo tacos with all the fixings for $7 and or sweet with honey for $4.

Looking for Miss Route 66

The Williams-Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce is coordinating the Miss Williams Route 66 Pageant set for Aug. 12.

Young ladies ages 14-19 are being sought from Williams, Parks and Ash Fork to compete in the Eighth Annual Miss Williams Route 66 Pageant. This is a great opportunity to meet and make new friends while making memories of a lifetime.

Rain barrels available

The Williams Clean and Beautiful Committee is selling 50 gallon rain barrels for $40. Barrels can be purchased at Williams Mountain Nursery, 225 W. Grant Ave., by asking for Carla. If paying by check, make it payable to Williams Clean and Beautiful.

Red ribbon cutting June 17

The Williams-Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors invites all to the first red ribbon cutting of the year. Plan to meet at 4:30 p.m. June 17 at the Singing Pig Barbecue Restaurant. Owners Kathi Calahan and Kevin Manley will be on hand to meet the community and chamber members.

Follow the Ambassadors to Wild West Junction, 321 E. Route 66, for a mixer 5-7 p.m. Bob Foster, manager of Wild West Junction, and members of the Greater Williams Community Fund (GWCF) will co-host the mixer. GWCF will announce the winners of their grant awards.

Driving safety class offered June 23

An AARP driving safety class will be held 12:30-4:30 p.m. June 23 at Williams City Hall, 113 S. First St. Call (623) 696-8992 to register.

Safeway seeks donations for Relay fundraiser
