Prescribed burning planned on Williams Ranger District after Labor Day holiday
Project area covers about 1,800

WILLIAMS, Ariz. - Fire specialists are preparing for prescribed burning on the Williams Ranger District after the Labor Day holiday as a continuation of the Kaibab National Forest prescribed fire program.

Depending on personnel availability, environmental conditions, and Arizona Department of Environmental Quality approval, burning may occur the week of Sept. 12. on the southeast unit of the City Project.

The project area covers about 1,800 acres, two miles southeast of Williams, east of the junction of County Road 73 and Forest Road 140. Managers plan to use aerial ignitions on this project. When ignitions begin, they will last one to two days. Smoke will be present for several days after the burn. After the burn, potential hazards in the area will include smoldering logs, hidden stump holes and hot ash.

This advance notice is given to smoke sensitive residents and forest visitors planning to travel, camp or hunt in the area of the burn. Please be advised of this potential prescribed fire just west of Dogtown Lake and south of Reneke Knoll. For more information, please contact Punky Moore at (928)-635-5653.
