Reward being offered in elk poaching case
Up to $3,000 available for information
PEACH SPRINGS, Ariz. - The Arizona Game and Fish Department is seeking information regarding two elk intentionally shot and left to waste. The Game and Fish Operation Game Thief (OGT) program is offering up to $3,000 for information leading to the arrest of the individual, or individuals responsible for this criminal act.
The two animals were illegally shot sometime between the evening of Sept. 27 and the early morning of Sept. 28 south of Peach Springs at the Nelson Chemical Plant (Game Management Unit 18A).
One of the animals illegally killed was a 5x5 bull elk and the other was a yearling cow. Both were shot and no attempt was made to recover the antlers or the meat from either animal.
"We've had more than a few cases this year," said Deanna Kephart, wildlife manager for the Game and Fish Kingman office. "Fortunately, through Operation Game Thief, we've managed to close the books on several. However, we need the help of the public again.
"Any information regarding this case can be helpful, a vehicle seen in the area, or maybe an overheard conversation. When dealing with these types of crimes, you need a solid starting point."
Anyone with information should call the OGT 24-hour hotline at (800) 352-0700 or submit the information through the OGT website at www.azgfd.gov/thief. The identities of those providing information through OGT will remain confidential.
