Yes I Can event this weekend
Actress Tina Marie to launch the movie, "To Save a Life"
WILLIAMS - This weekend, Yes I Can, Inc. will sponsor a two-evening event Friday and Saturday at the Williams Elementary-Middle School Auditorium. Actress Tina Marie will speak before showings of the movie, "To Save a Life."
Marie will speak at 6 p.m. with the movie showing immediately after. Marie is making her second appearance in Williams. She made her first appearance at the youth event, "Defeating Your Giants" in 2008. Marie's message is "Exposing the Hollywood Lie" and her main mission in life is to expose the lies of the media and inspire people to create change in their culture.
She speaks all over the world at youth and adult events, including Africa.
Saturday's showing will be geared towards parents and adults although youth 13-years-old and above are invited if unable to attend Friday night.
According to Yes I Can President Bill Sutton, "To Save a Life" is a movie with a message.
"It has been called 'The best movie for youth ever made' by a number of those interviewed on the promo-dvd," Sutton said. "I agree with that assessment. When the movie was at Harkins, I took two of my sons, Brent and Jeff, along with Brent's girlfriend Kat, and Terrin Agee. They all agreed that it was great. In fact, they were talking after the movie about how they just wanted to be better, and make a difference, after seeing the movie"
Sutton went on to say the movie changes those who see it. Like many events promoted by the Yes I Can organization, there will be a religious component to the presentation by Marie and the movie.
"It is a movie with many messages and it has a faith element," Sutton said. "It's not just a movie that teaches faith, but there are many great messages for youth in the movie. Anybody can get something of life value from this movie."
Sutton said "To Save A Life" is rated PG-13 and as a result children 13-years-old and under must be accompanied by and adult to view the film.
"As young people would say, 'It's real,'" he said. "It doesn't hold back or whitewash what young people go through these days, and choices they have to make on a daily basis."
Sutton said a number of leaders from the community, including four pastors, previewed the film in January. He said those who watched the movie rated it a '10', and thought it was a must see.
According to the movie's website, www.tosavealifemovie.com, "To Save A Life" is a film that "explores how saving a life could be just a matter of opening our ears to the cries of those hurting through the dramatic story of Jake Taylor."
Admission is free, but tickets are available to help Yes I Can track attendance numbers. Tickets can be picked up at the Williams Recreation Center, Brown Bag Sandwich Shoppe, American Flyer and at a number of churches in town. Tickets are also available from any Yes I Can member, or any Junior Inspirations member.
Junior Inspirations will be selling snacks at the event, and after the movie presentation, free ice cream sandwiches will be provided for all, compliments of Bruce and Sue Pearson.
