Editorial: Cast your ballot Tuesday

Tuesday is Election Day. It's time to exercise your right to vote. Voters can cast their votes in the primary election at two locations in Williams. North side voters - those residing on the north side of town, west of Williams and along Highway 64 - can vote at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel, 235 N. Grand Canyon Blvd. South side voters - those residing on the south side of Williams and south of Williams - can cast ballots at Coconino Community College, 636 S. Seventh St. The polls are open 6 a.m.-7 p.m. Voters can also cast early ballots at Williams City Hall, 113 S. First St., until Thursday at 4 p.m.

Remember to be prepared at the polls by having proof of identification available. Voters are required to present either one acceptable photo identification or two forms of acceptable non-photo identification. The voter identification card and the sample ballot are two acceptable forms of non-photo identification.

The local race on many minds is Justice of the Peace. Andrew Hamby, Danny Harness, Rob Krombeen, Annie Shumway, Wade Simon and Dennis Wells, all Republican candidates, are campaigning for the judgeship. As all the candidates are registered in the same political party, Tuesday's election will likely determine what candidate will fill the post. The Williams Justice Court precinct covers a wide geographic region from Supai through Grand Canyon and Tusayan and south of Williams and Parks.

Many other offices are up for grabs in this election. We applaud the men and women appearing on Tuesday's ballot. By running for office, they have demonstrated they are dedicated to our area's future. Remember that those elected will make crucial decisions that will affect the quality of life in our area. Have a say in the community's future by voting for the candidates of your choice. If you choose not to vote, you still have made a choice - you've chosen to remain silent.

Casting a ballot in any election is an easy way to assure your voice is heard. If you failed to register to vote in Tuesday's election, register today for the November General Election. For more information, call the Coconino County Elections Office at (928) 779-6589 or toll-free (800) 793-6181.
