Johnson retires from Arizona Department of Transportation
Party held last Saturday celebrates 30 years of service
WILLIAMS - Dennis Johnson celebrated his retirement from the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) after 30 years of service with a party held at the Legion Hut last Saturday.
Johnson began his career in 1979, fresh out of the Marine Corp., starting as a Highway Maintenance Worker under the supervision of Jack Fuller. He held the position for eight years before working his way up to a Lead Man position, supervising work crews, under the leadership of Kenny Brooks. After 14 years, Brooks retired, at which point, Johnson assumed the Supervisor role, holding the position for the last six years.
With his career with ADOT coming to a close, Johnson plans to take a short break before starting a small welding business.
"First I'm going fishing," he said. "Me and the wife are going to take two weeks and go to the White Mountains. It will be right after I retire, we'll go up there for a couple of weeks."
As his long and successful career with ADOT comes to a close, Johnson says he looks back on the experience fondly.
"It's always been positive, no regrets," he said. "There have been good times and rough times, but all in all, it's been a great ride."
