Vikings dominate Homecoming
Facing toughest opponent of the season Friday
WILLIAMS - The Vikes displayed a show of force in their 54-14 route of Valley-Sanders on homecoming. Both the defense and offense played exceptional games with the offense scoring on all of their initial drives.
Coach Jeff Brownlee said the Vikings handled Valley-Sanders well from the start of the game.
"We took control of the game from the kick off to the end," he said. "We had all aspects of the game working very well. We got through a good second quarter. The kids played a whole football game. That's what we needed before going into playing Red Mesa this week."
Tyler Krombeen ran the ball eight times for 170 yards and two touchdowns. Dallas Grantham had eight carries for 50 yards and one touchdown. Guy Forbis reached the end zone on a 23-yard pass from Darius Brown and Doug Forbis scored on a 15-yard pass.
While the Vikes dominated the game, they did make adjustments defensively.
"Valley-Sanders had a unique offense where they just lined up from tight-end to tight-end and foot to foot and they just tried to pound us straight forward, which was a little tough because it's hard to pick up the ball carrier," Brownlee said. "But our defense did a good job of flowing to the ball, reading the play and making a good tackle."
The Vikings travel to Red Mesa on Friday. Brownlee said the Vikes will face their toughest opponent of the season.
"Red Mesa did suffer a loss last week to St. Johns 46-6, but they still believe they are the second best team in the North and I'm sure they've got something to prove this week after losing last week," Brownlee said. "There's been a lot of build up on Red Mesa. We're going to go there with our game plan, make the proper adjustments and come back with a win."
