AWPRA barrel racing results
Group returning late September

WILLIAMS - The Arizona Women's Professional Rodeo Association (AWPRA) headed north to Williams on Memorial Weekend May 23-24 to hold one of the three annual barrel races the chapter produces in the Williams community. The barrel race was held at the Bob Dean Arena on Rodeo Road.

The race was questionable with showers falling off and on all Friday night but cleared up Saturday. Bob Dean, 2008 AWPRA Man of the Year, and his assistant Van Thundercloud worked the ground and had it very safe and consistent for the contestants by the time the barrel race was to start.

By Sunday the sun was shining and the ground got firmer. April Denny from Benson came in and won the 1D both days with an 18.130 on Saturday and a blazing 17.684 on Sunday. Concessionaire Michelle Pearce brought her new business (Our Place) all the way from Havasu City to set up for the two-day show.

"The girls love coming up here and enjoy our grounds. They bring a lot of money into town," said Dean, who is also the Labor Day Rodeo Chairman and tractor driver.

The AWPRA would like to thank Bob Dean, Van Thundercloud, Rose Newbold, the city of Williams, and the Williams City Council for the hospitality and hard work they do for our contestants.

The chapter will return in late September. Watch the News for specific days and times. For information on barrel race schedules and standings go to
