Play bingo in Parks
The Ponderosa Fire District Auxiliary will hold a Cinco de Mayo Dinner and bingo fundraiser on Saturday at the Maine Consolidated School n Parks.
Navajo tacos and nachos will be served at 6 p.m. Navajo tacos are $5 and kids under 12 eat for $3.50. Nachos are $1. Bingo starts at 7 p.m. and cards are $2.50 each or three for $5. All proceeds benefit the Ponderosa Fire District Auxiliary, a non-profit organization that supports the Ponderosa Fire District.

Defensive driving May 9
A defensive driving class will be held May 9 at the H.A. Clark Memorial Airfield north of Williams. Classes begin at 8 a.m. Spaces are still available for permitted or licensed high school age students. The free public class is offered by the Williams Rotary Club. Dispose of electronics Saturday
Grand Canyon Railway® and Williams Clean and Beautiful have teamed up to provide a community electronics drop off Saturday at the Rodeo Grounds from 9 a.m. to noon. Green-Tech Assets is willing to come to Williams with a tractor-trailer (free of charge) to pick up electronic waste from the community.
This company recently picked up 3,945 pounds of electronics from the Grand Canyon Railway and Xanterra South Rim. Telecommunications electronics, consumer electronics, electronic components, miscellaneous electronic items, ferrous and non-ferrous metals will be accepted for drop off May 2. Mother-daughter banquet Saturday
The Sisters in Spirit group of the Community United Methodist Church will host the Annual Mother Daughter Banquet at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
This year's theme is "Cowgirl Up!" Cowgirl Dinner will include roast beef, scalloped potatoes, green beans, dinner rolls and dessert. Entertainment will include a poet laureate and a special guest speaker. Tickets are $7 for ages 13 and older, $3.50 for ages 5-12 and ages four and under eat free. All women are invited.

Donate blood today
The Williams High School Student Council is hosting a blood drive today from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the WHS gym, 440 S. Seventh St.
This year the student council is giving their best efforts to have as many students, faculty and community members sign up and donate. The council has a large goal to accomplish with the amount of people that signs up as well as for blood donors. The student council has the opportunity to become their division's top participant. With that position, they would win a reward and have the opportunity to take student council members to a Diamondbacks game in May.

Ash Fork Legion offers barbecue
The Ash Fork American Legion Auxiliary will be having a barbecue at the Ash Fork Legion Post following the Pioneer Day Celebrations on Saturday from 3-6 p.m.
The menu will consist of hamburgers or hot dogs, macaroni salad and baked beans. It is open to all members and guests.
Ash Fork Legion offers brunch
The Ash Fork American Legion Auxiliary is hosting a Mothers' Day brunch 11 a.m.-2 p.m. May 9. The brunch is open to all women, mothers, daughters, sisters and friends of members and their guests.
This year's them is "A Mother's Love." Three will be prizes fro the oldest and youngest mothers, the most generations of mothers and more.

The Northern Arizona Council of Governments (NACOG), Area Agency on Aging Elder Rights Unit invites all to a free presentation about identity theft and consumer scams. The free presentation begins at 12:30 p.m. May 14 at the Williams Senior Center, 850 W. Grant Ave.

Class of 1999 seeks classmates
The Williams High School Class of 1999 is having a 10-year reunion May 23-25 in Williams. All teachers and upper or lower classmates are invited to reunite with the class at 9 p.m. May 23 at the World Famous Sultana Bar.

Golf tournament will benefit seniors in Williams
Organizers are planning a "Putting in the Pines" golf tournament for senior services in the Williams area. The tournament will be held June 26 at the Elephant Rocks Golf Course, with a shotgun start scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.
Organizers are currently seeking golfers and donors for the event. Donations are tax deductible. Registration for golfers is $100 each and teams of four are welcome. The tournament will include an 18-hole scramble, cart, lunch and prizes. A hole-in-one prize is also offered, where the winner will receive a new Harley-Davidson.

Fuelwood permits available
Permits for gathering dead and down firewood for personal use on the Williams Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest can be obtained for $5 per cord.
The minimum purchase is $20. Six cords per household is the maximum amount of wood that can be purchased per season. Firewood gathering season will be open through Dec. 13. Permits will be available weekdays at the following locations the Williams Ranger District, 742 S. Clover Hill Rd. 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday. For more information, call (928) 635-5600.
Support available for cancer survivors
The Williams Area Cancer Survivors' Group offers support for cancer survivors, family members and caregivers the second Thursday of each month. The next meeting begins at 6 p.m. May 14 at the Williams Health Care Center, 301. S. Seventh St.

Reserve space for expo
The First Annual 2009 Multi-cultural Arts, Crafts and Antiques Expo will take place June 19-21 in Williams. This Multi-cultural street fair with fine art, crafts, food, art demonstrations, antiques and entertainment will reflect the cultural diversity of our area. Local and state and regional vendors have been invited to attend and participate in this dynamic, culturally inspired event.
There will be fun and entertainment for the whole family. Participate in the 25-foot long art expression wall; make Mexican coscorones or Chinese origami. Enjoy the diverse live entertainment including Chinese Ribbon Dancers, Folklorico Dancers, Native American music, rock band and soloists all weekend long.
The Williams-Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce is working along with Inspirations, Inc., a non-profit organization that promotes and mentors youth in life skills and career development, artistic development and activities that are good and safe for youth. Also involved is the Williams Multi-Cultural Alliance. This group works with all organizations in the community to help with reducing drug and alcohol abuse by youth, recognizing and rewarding positive youth behaviors and create more family friendly events.

Go down in local history
The Williams Rotary Club and Williams Clean and Beautiful will start the landscaping project on the clock area on Friday. You still have a chance to be a part of the history in Williams by purchasing a brick with your name engraved.
The bricks will be installed in the landscaping of the clock area. Clean and beautiful has also sold three park benches that will surround the clock area. The bricks are $100 each. Order forms can be picked up at Hometown Video or the Williams-Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce office. Bricks will only be sold until Friday. After that there will be no more brick sales.

Pit volunteers needed
Volunteers are needed to host open pit days at Moonset Pit. Moonset Pit is a cinder pit located on the Kaibab National Forest just west of the Parks community on a dirt road just east of Spitz Springs on the north side of Route 66.
Moonset Pit will be open twice per month beginning in May. On open pit days, area residents can dispose of natural forest debris free of charge. Moonset Pit is supported by the Kaibab National Forest, local fire departments, and the communities of Parks, Bellemont and Sherwood Forest Estates.

The Ponderosa Fire District Auxiliary will be holding a used book/DVD/VHS fundraiser sale on June 27 in Parks. If you can donate any books, DVDs or VHS tapes, please contact Chris McCarty at (928) 635-1957.
Donations needed for Parks' garden
A community garden is planned in Parks at the corner of Route 66 and Spring Valley Road. Martie Sparks and the Parks in the Pines 4-H Club will care for the garden.
The group is in need of donations such as mulch, manure, five-gallon buckers, PVC pipe or any gardening-related items.

Masterswimmers open to all
Feeling your years? Slowing down? Putting on a little pudge around the middle? So are the Williams Masterswimmers.
The Masterswimmers invite the rest of the old fuddy-duddy's at the Williams Aquatic Center on Monday and Friday mornings at 7 a.m. The group gathers for fun and exercise, mostly, but are also currently training for an open water swim in June. They may even muster enough strength and courage to compete with other masters' swimming clubs someday. Williams Masterswimmers is open to anyone, and there is no charge to participate aside from the entry fee to the pool itself.

The Williams Senior Center now has a new phone number. The phone number is 679-7480. This is still a local call and no charges will be incurred by calling this number.
GED/ABE prep classes offered
GED/ABE prep classes are held at Coconino Community College, 636 S. Seventh St. GED/ABE class hours are 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and 3:30-5:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. ESL classes are offered 3:30-5:30 p.m. and 6-8:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.

Aerobics instructor Georgeanna Koenig offers aerobics at the Williams Health Care Center, 301 S. Seventh St.
She teaches light challenge classes each week from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and energizer classes from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of each week as well.
There is no charge for the classes, but donations are welcome.
Box tops needed
Box Tops for Education, a program sponsored by General Mills, remains under way locally. Collect box tops from General Mills products and Campbell's Soup labels and help purchase school supplies for classrooms at the Williams Elementary-Middle School.
On General Mills products, the words "Box Tops for Education" must appear or the labels are worth nothing. On Campbell's Soup labels, the UPC code must be present.

Women on the Move meet weekly
Women on the Move is open to all women dedicated to recovery and actively working any 12-Step Program. There are no dues or fees as the group is self-supporting through their own contributions. The group meets on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in Walker Hall, St. John's Episcopal Lutheran Church, corner of Second and Grant in Williams. This is a non-smoking meeting.
