The 10 minute blackout Monday evening went off just about as smoothly as the most exacting could desire. Within a minute of the designated time for lights to go out not a single light was visible, and to make it 100 percent effective the old weather man cooperated to black out the moon with low hanging clouds, which would have made it impossible for an enemy to hit the mountain, let alone the city.

Feb. 27, 1958
There was a derailment in the east end of the Santa Fe yards at Ash Fork on Sunday, when one pair of wheels of a freight car went aground. Traffic was tied up for about one hour, while crews put the car back on the rails.

March 1, 1973
The junior high geography classes were treated to a travelogue of Canada last week when Mrs. Ruth Duncan brought slides, dolls, flags and happy memories of Canada into the seventh grade classroom. The class was impressed with scenes of lakes, rivers, canals, cathedrals and rolling prairies of wheat as Mrs. Duncan narrated the beauty and contrasts of each province from the Atlantic to the Pacific.
