Letter: Thanks for lighting the tree
To the editor:
Though I no longer live in Williams, I was delighted to read Tom Hooker's letter regarding the Christmas tree on the hill, and to know that the tradition is being carried on.
We lived in Williams for 42 years, and each year with the help of the Lions Club and APS the tree was lighted. It was a project that my husband, Harry Cole, took over after Raymond Cox, who worked for the city and APS, moved away. Each year as the lights came down, Harry would bring them to our house and rework all the lights and repair any parts that needed repaired so they would be in shape for the coming year. It ended up being a family project where we all helped and twice the star was removed to be repaired and painted. We spent many hours working on the star so it would shine bright for all to see.
When we lived in California, our boys were small so we traveled at night to visit my folks at the Grand Canyon for Christmas, and as we passed through Williams, we would wake the boys so they could see the tree.
So thanks to all of you who had a part in the lighting of the tree this year. Harry would be pleased. By the way, he was not the manager of APS, but a customer consultant.
My sincerest best wishes to you all and "Merry Christmas."
Ethel Cole
