Williams Chamber plans 2009 programs to encourage the area's economic growth
With the slowing economy, the Williams-Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce's Board of Directors formulated plans to encourage continued economic growth in the Williams economy. The business organization plans to build upon existing programs, encourage more member participation and step up efforts to market Williams as a destination to visitors to northern Arizona.
Chamber board members, staff and guests met recently at the Historic La Posada Hotel in Winslow for their annual board retreat. The gathering is held each year to review what the chamber has accomplished over the past year and establish a plan of work for the coming year.
Randy King, President of Chamber Enhancement Group, LLC, facilitated the meeting.
"The Williams Chamber has a can do spirit and does an amazing job for the community," King stated. "In these challenging economic times it is imperative that the chamber staff and board shows the leadership and direction to encourage increased economic activity for your area."
King commended Williams Chamber of Commerce CEO/President Donna Eastman Liddle as an experienced executive - known throughout the state of Arizona - to accomplish the aggressive goals set out by the board of directors.
Committee accomplishments and plans for 2009 were passed out and reviewed.
Clean and Beautiful Chairwoman Carol Glassburn inspired those present with plans for continued improvements of Glassburn Park, new parking lots, old time lighting extensions to all areas of town, replacement of business signing, and stepped up efforts to continue the clean up efforts in our town.
"We are going to get these programs done or started next year," stated Glassburn. "Williams can be proud of the partnerships between the city, chamber and civic organizations to move Williams forward."
Diana Croteau followed with a report from the Christmas Committee and holiday activities that are planned. She also discussed the Ambassadors Committee and the need to recognize the volunteers who are ambassadors and to reach out and sign up more volunteers.
Liddle gave an enlightened report on all the activities and promotions of Williams the chamber was involved in last year. She thanked her staff and the board of directors for their continued support and hard work.
"I am very proud of the marketing and news media coverage the chamber helped facilitate last year," stated Liddle, "Williams is definitely on the map as a destination to see in our great state of Arizona."
Liddle did caution those present of the tightening budget the chamber is facing. She hopes that the organization continues to receive enough funding to keep aggressive marketing efforts going.
"Now is not the time to cut back on marketing are area. We need to stay out in front with a strong message to visitors of what Williams and the Grand Canyon has to offer," she concluded.
A program of work will be published from the discussions and planning that was held during the board retreat and will be available for review sometime in December.
