Jan. 15, 1942

• The 1942 buffalo hunt will be held for three days, Jan. 26-28, in House Rock Valley. Thirty-three buffaloes will be killed during the three-day hunt, 11 animals each day.

50 years ago

Jan. 17, 1957

• There are no more legal excuses to avoid washing those cars now. The town of Williams has announced that portion of the ordinance pertaining to the use of water for washing automobiles is suspended. This suspension will remain in force until the Common Council of the town of Williams deems it necessary to terminate such suspension. This termination may be made orally or written and without prior notice being necessitated.

35 years ago

Jan. 13, 1972

• Grocery specials featured at Williams Country Grocery included two dozen eggs for 79 cents, a 25-pound cloth sack of flour for $1 and 12-ounce containers of Catsup for five for $1. Music on sale included 45 RPM records that had been 98 cents each, marked down to 89 cents each.
