School board candidate profiles - Bud Parenteau
"I still have a passion for the children in this community," said Williams Unified School District governing board incumbent Albert "Bud" Parenteau, Sr.
That is one of Parenteau's main reasons for wanting to continue as a board member.
"I've been doing it for a long time and I'd like to continue, partly because I still have grandchildren in the school."
As far as past performance, Parenteau is happy with the board and thinks the current group should be commended for bringing in the new administrators.
"They (new administrators) brought a lot of experience in and helped us through our troubled times."
He added that the board needs to continue moving forward, which includes keeping a sharp eye out for the future and preparing for the growth that is sure to come. Parenteau said that, in fact, student count is currently up by a sizeable amount compared to other years.
Of importance to Parenteau is bringing more funds into the district ‹ a movement that, right now, could only be primarily accomplished by convincing Arizona leaders that the state's school funding formula is unfair for districts like Williams. Parenteau said he also wants to examine alternative ways of both retaining quality staff and addressing salary issues.
The popular and longtime member feels it's his passion for children ‹ not to mention being a grandparent of current students ‹ and his prior experience on the board that make him a candidate for the job once again.
Parenteau brings with him not only professional financial experience, but a willingness to listen to the concerns of others as well, and appreciates the community's interest in the welfare of students.
"I'd like to thank the people for running and showing interest in the community," Parenteau offers. "I've run unopposed before, but not this time, and I think that's a good thing because it shows people really care."
