School supplies needed for fair

A back to school fair will be held 9 a.m.-noon Aug. 5 at the Williams Senior Center, 850 W. Grant Ave.

A Williams-Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors' Mixer will be held from 5-7 p.m. July 28 at Rosa's Cantina, 411 N. Grand Canyon Blvd. Everyone is invited to bring school supplies for the fair. The 50/50 draw will benefit the Back to School Fair.

Free immunizations will be offered to children from 9-11 a.m. Informational tables for the public will be featured at the fair. Fingerprinting will also be offered. Last year more than 200 children attended the fair.

Supplies are needed to make the fair possible. Donations of pencils, backpacks, pens, paper and all that goes with back to school supplies are needed. Donations can be left at the senior center.

Relay for life meets today

The Williams Relay for Life planning committee will meet at 7 p.m. today at Rosa's Cantina, 411 N. Grand Canyon Blvd.

This year's Relay will begin at 6 p.m. July 29 at Cureton Park. New teams are still welcome and everyone is welcome to participate.

Register for school July 31-Aug. 4

The Williams Elementary-Middle School will be holding registration round up July 31-Aug. 4. The round up is a time for parents to fill out all the necessary paperwork before school begins and to register any new students. School begins Aug. 10.

The round up will be offered at the WEMS office on a walk-in basis during regular office hours. On July 31, registration will be held for preschool and kindergarten students. First and second grade students can register Aug. 1. Registration for students in third and fourth grades is Aug. 2. Fifth and sixth grade students can register Aug. 3, and seventh and eighth grades on Aug. 4.

Meet the Teacher Night will be held Aug. 8 from 5-7 p.m. This will be an opportunity for parents and students to meet the teachers, see the classrooms, receive supply lists and lunch menus and ask questions.

The Parent-Teacher Association will serve food items in the cafeteria and other organizations will also be available. Any students that missed the registration round up will be able to register as well.

Safe driving class Aug. 3-4

AARP Drive Alive is again coming to Williams. The nation's first safe driving class for those over 50 will be offered in Williams on Aug. 3-4 from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Williams City Hall, 113 S. First St.

The eight hours of classroom study is designed to help older drivers compensate for changes in sight, hearing and restricted body movements. Other items, which might help seniors be safer are also covered. Over four million seniors have taken this class. Some insurance companies provide discounts to students that complete this class.

The cost is $10 with all monies going to AARP to cover the cost of materials. The volunteer instructor is Jack Hadley.
