Obituary

Dwayne E. Jones

Dwayne E. Jones, 72, died on Aug. 20, 2006 in Cuchillo, N.M.

Dwayne was born to Jack and Vivian (Berger) Jones in Jal, N.M. on July 26, 1934. He went to school in Roswell and then to the University of Albuquerque hoping to become a veterinarian, but had to drop out of school for lack of money. He started transporting livestock for the ranchers and rodeos for several years. He rode saddle broncs and won several buckles in Wyoming, Colorado and Texas. He loved animals and was always ready to doctor them.

He went into the Army and served during the Korean War in the heavy artillery unit. When he got out of the service, he worked at White Sands for awhile. Dwayne went to Alaska before their statehood and spent time as a deputy sheriff, arson investigator and guiding during his spare time.

He loved Alaska and saw many changes there through the years, including the new pipeline. He received his pilot's license and would fly the hunters into remote areas. He then went into the construction field in Alaska, Nevada and Arizona, where he met his wife, Eagle. She started working with him in construction and they then moved to New Mexico for the mineral water for his health and they got married and settled in at Cuchillo.

Dwayne always wanted to go to Africa and in 1994, he and Eagle went to Zimbabwe for one month, which was a wonderful trip for them.

He leaves his wife, Eagle; his sister, Jeri (Gary) Wood; his niece, Pam (Randy) Smith; three stepdaughters, Cathy (Don) Carter, Shirley (Rocky), Annecchini and Linda (Ray) Thompson; two nephews; and numerous stepsons and stepdaughters.

Cremation will take place and private interment will follow.

Arrangements are by Kirikos Family Funeral Home, Inc. and Sierra Crematory.
