A well-deserved moment
A heartfelt and joyous tear was shed by Carol Glassburn on Aug. 2 when, during a celebration for the Williams/Coconino County TeenWorks crew, she was given a very special surprise ‹ a proclamation from Mayor Ken Edes declaring that, because of Glassburn's work, Linear Park be renamed Glassburn Park. A longtime resident, Glassburn has been involved ‹ quite often heavily ‹ in nearly every project the town has seen in recent years. That includes being a chamber ambassador, being on the Williams Clean and Beautiful Committee, being a member of the Williams Needs an Angel Committee, being on the chamber board of directors, helping out with nearly every function or special event the city holds and much, much more. Above, Glassburn collects herself after the proclamation was read by chamber member/local business owner Michael F. Vasquez as Edes (far right) applauds. The proclamation read: Whereas, the City of Williams has benefited from the diligent, constant and generous assistance provided by Carol Glassburn; and Whereas, Carol Glassburn has made the daily life of the City of Williams better for all its citizens due to her unselfish service; and Whereas, the City of Williams would not be as clean and beautiful, or as pleasant and friendly a place without the support and work bestowed by Carol Glassburn for the benefit of the City; and Whereas, Carol acts as inspiration, good example and encouragement for all citizens of Williams; and Whereas, many friends, relatives and acquaintances want to honor and appreciate Carol for her generosity and benevolence; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, that I, Kenneth Edes, Mayor of the City of Williams, do hereby declare to all citizens of the City of Williams that from this day forward the park along Railroad Avenue will be known as the Glassburn Park in recognition of Carol Glassburn's dedication and devotion to the City of Williams. Glassburn also received a written certificate of appreciation and recognition from the office of Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano. She responded with thanks to everyone, said she wished her late husband Ray had been there to enjoy the moment and also said, "If heaven was a town, it would be Williams."
