Local Elks to meet today

The Williams Elks Lodge will meet at 7 p.m. today at Rosa's Cantina, 411 N. Grand Canyon Blvd. A social hour begins at 6:15 p.m.

Come have some fun as we work to create a new lodge in Williams. The Elks have a tradition of serving their communities for more than 135 years and are over one million members strong. One hundred members are needed to form a lodge.

Celebrate someone special

Blue Ribbon Week is being celebrated this week through Friday, giving residents the opportunity to say "Thank you" publicly.

In conjunction with the Williams Alliance Against Drug Abuse and Character Counts, Blue Ribbon Week allows the public to nominate for awards young individuals or youth organizations that have made a significant difference in their lives or the lives of others.

Nomination forms can be both obtained and turned in at city hall, National Bank of Arizona, APS or the Williams High School.

Award winners will be announced at the Williams Kiwanis Club Annual Tax Relief Spaghetti Dinner at the Community United Methodist Church Friday. After the dinner and ceremonies, attendees are invited to stay and enjoy family game night.

Girls' Night Out benefits Relay

Enjoy a night out with the girls to fight cancer. Shop at Gracie's Clothing & More and Shabby & Chic Vintage Trendy Boutique Saturday from 6-9 p.m. Ten percent of the evening's proceeds will be donated to Relay for Life.

Tickets are still available for Girls' Night Out ‹ also on Saturday ‹ at Shabby & Chic. One dollar from every ticket sold will benefit Relay for Life.

Pet dental clinic Saturday

An anesthesia-free dental clinic for pets will be offered on Saturday at Canyon Pets. For more information call 635-4000.

Whooping cough clinics scheduled Tuesday

The Coconino County Health Department, in collaboration with the Williams Unified School District, will hold two Whooping Cough (pertussis) vaccination clinics on Tuesday. The first clinic is scheduled from 9-10 a.m. at Williams High School, 440 S. Seventh St. The second clinic will be held at Williams Elementary-Middle School, 601 N. Seventh St., from 10 a.m.-noon for students and will be open to the public from noon-2 p.m.

The Tdap vaccine (tetanus, diphtheria, and a cellular pertussis) is being offered to adults, ages 19-64 years old for a reduced fee of $35. The cost of the vaccine has been temporarily reduced during this outbreak. Cash, credit cards and checks will be accepted.

The vaccine will be given free to all parents, grandparents and caregivers of infants under one year of age. The Tdap vaccine is free for children 18 and under.

The only requirement for anyone receiving the Tdap shot is that they have not received a Tetanus shot within the last two years. Information and permission forms will be distributed to students prior to the scheduled clinics.

School make-up days explained

The Williams Unified School District is notifying the community of make-up days that have been scheduled in response to recent unexpected snow closures.

The district incorporates extra snow days into its calendar on purpose, which are considered student vacation days unless there are closures for inclement weather. Those three days are Friday, Monday and May 8.

Due to the March 10 and 13 snow cancellations, Williams High School and Williams Elementary-Middle School will be in regular session on Monday and May 8.Williams schools will be closed Friday.

Lions calendar ready for print

The Williams Lions Club is preparing to send the 2006-2007 Community Birthday Calendar to the printer. If you have any additions, corrections, or deletions to the 39th issue of this Williams tradition, contact your favorite Lion or calendar chair Denis Kirkley at 635-9366. New customers are also welcome to have their family's birthdays and anniversaries listed. The deadline for changes to the calendar is April 23.

Women in Business meet April 20

Williams Women in Business will meet at 8 a.m. April 20 at Denny's.

Dinner, auction set for April 23

The Second Annual Williams Young Life Steak Dinner and Auction is set for April 23. The fun begins at 5 p.m. at Lost Canyon's Young Life Camp.

In addition to a steak dinner, a silent auction with a variety of items will be offered. Youth will be up for bids during the hire-a-kid auction.

Tickets are offered in advance for $7.50. Tickets at the door will cost $8.50. Tickets area available at Shear Revolutions or Williams Chiropractic.

Kindergarten registration set for May 5

Kindergarten registration and screening for the fall semester is scheduled May 5 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. The screening will be held at the Williams Elementary-Middle School, 601 N. Seventh St.

The screening will take approximately 30-40 minutes. A copy of the child's birth certificate and immunization records must be presented at the time of the scheduled appointment.
