A club with some big clubs
The Williams High School golf team, coached by Williams Unified School District Athletic Director Rick Shipley, has been making a name for itself at matches throughout the past month.
"It's good to see that the kids are continuing to improve, although the lack of us getting out on our own golf course has hindered us a bit," Shipley said, referring to recent inclement weather.
The team ‹ comprised of players Daniel Mayfield, Kevin Kirkley, Peter Espinoza, Alyssa Dennison, Ethan Macks, Arthur Davidson, Mark Ostler and AJ Cole ‹ just returned from the River Valley tournament. Vikings golfers competed against 12 other 2A-4A teams and finished ninth. In a special girls only category, however, Dennison came in fourth out of 14 female golfers. In May, Williams will once again be host to the regionals competition, but the team has several matches before then, the next of which will take them to Beaver Creek Monday. Shipley wished to thank John McCahan and others at the Elephant Rocks Golf Course for letting the team play and practice there, though they haven't had as much as they'd like due to snowfall.
