Sophia Chavez

Sophia (Sophie) Chavez died Wed., May 25, 2005, at home with family by her side.

Sophia was born Jan. 17, 1934 in Williams to Juan and Frances Montoya.

Sophia grew up and lived most of her life in Williams with time spent in San Rafael, N.M., Kingman and the past 10 years in Flagstaff. She was a homemaker and wonderful mother of eight. She was a very brave and caring person who loved her family.

Sophia was married for 40 years to Clemente Chavez who preceded her in death 11 years ago.

Sophia is survived by seven children, Liz Otero of Williams, Frank Chavez of Bullhead City, Alice Matthews of Williams, Dorothy Chavez of Kingman, Steve Chavez of Phoenix, Rosalee Chavez of Flagstaff and Stephanie Chavez of Flagstaff; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and three sisters and two brothers.

A rosary was held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Williams at 7 p.m. on Mon., May 30. A Mass was held at 10 a.m. on Tues., May 31.

The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Northland Hospice.

Arrangements were entrusted to Norvel Owens Mortuary.

Dulce Jasmin Davalos

Dulce Jasmin Davalos, 15, died Friday, May 27, 2005 in Williams.

Dulce was born April 21, 1990 at Flagstaff Medical Center to Lorenzo and Maria Davalos.

At the time of her death, Dulce had completed her freshman year at Williams High School. She loved hearing music. Dulce enjoyed hanging out and cruising with her friends and cousins. Dulce spoke fondly of her friends and never spoke a bad word of anyone.

Dulce is survived by her parents, Lorenzo and Maria Davalos; brothers and sisters, Jesus Salazar, Booney Davalos, Jose Lorenzo, Joel Salazar and Elvira Salazar, all of Williams and Margarita Olmedo of Naco, Sonora; numerous nieces and nephews including Juanita, Mario, Jesusito, Maria and Aurora; grandfathers Ramon Salazar and Lorenzo Iriqui; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

A funeral Mass will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. A burial Mass will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2005 At St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Norvel Owens Mortuary.

Jack Pruett

Jack Pruett, 75, died at his home in Williams May 23, 2005.

Jack, a logger, was born in Piggott, Ark. on March 7, 1930. He moved to Arizona in 1963.

He is survived by sons Bill and Jeffrey Pruett of Williams; daughters Brenda Sanzanton and Carol Howard of Williams, Lisa Pruett of Mesa, Donna Funkhouser of Cordes Junction and Sue Crawford of Missouri; sister Ovene Browning of West Virginia; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Jackie Wayne Pruett and wife Dorothy Pruett.

Services were held May 28, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Williams Canyon Chapel and arrangements were under the direction of Norvel Owens Mortuary.
