“It was in an inaccessible area that we couldn’t reach with trucks and other equipment,” he said. “We had to go in with snow cats and walking.”

Power was restored in Grand Canyon Village and Tusayan at about 12:30 p.m.

Normally, when the main line is out, Grand Canyon and Tusayan are switched to an alternate line that runs from Prescott to Ash Fork, then to Williams and north but Keil said there were issues with that line as well.

The electricity also went out to Desert View on the night of Monday, Jan. 3 when a tree came down on the area’s feeder line. Power was restored there at about 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 4, according to Keil.

The outages affected about 950 customers, Keil said.
