I am proud of how far the Williams-Grand Canyon News has progressed. While we are always looking at ways to improve the content of the News, we know we can do even better in the years to come. We will continue to work diligently to improve our coverage of sports, local events and communities in the surrounding areas.

Thank you to those who like what they see and let us know. I keep all letters of thanks, encouragement and tokens of appreciation on my desk so that I can see them on a daily basis. It means a lot to me that you took time out of your day to express your positive thoughts.

I only received two “Lynda, you stink” letters this year. The letters were signed, which I admire you for doing so. I’m human. I know that I cannot make everyone happy every day. If I could, this publication would be moving in the wrong direction. The content of the News should make readers think, and more importantly, react. If no one objects to what is in the paper or what is not in the paper that means no one is really reading the contents.

Please remember that we are reporting on events that actually happened. We do not create the news. If your behavior is out of line during a public meeting, you become part of the story. The same is true of the Police Report. If you don’t want your name in the Police Report, don’t commit the crime. The choice remains in your own hands.

We saw several new businesses open in 2004. While new businesses are important, longtime businesses in Williams are of equal importance. My personal goal this year is to acknowledge business owners who have remained in business locally for many years. I want to know what has kept you in business. Has your business changed recently? Do you have an anniversary coming up? I know Larry and Stella Sanchez of Rod’s Steak House will celebrate 20 years of ownership in August. Let us be a part of your celebrations and share your good news with the community.

Let’s find out in 2005 who has lived in Williams the longest. Who is our oldest resident? Does our first Williams High School graduate still live here? I know that Fred “Perico” Avila still lives in the house he was born and raised in. Surely there are others who have similar stories. Let us know who you are.

Everybody has or is a story. Every story leads to another story. We all share the same connections in some way. All of these ideas will make wonderful feature stories.

I need your help to make this happen. If you have a story or are a story, please contact me at (928) 635-4426. My e-mail address is editorial@williamsnews.com. I look forward to hearing from you.
