Local gives thanks for care, prayers

To the editor:

I would like to give thanks to the following people that called and came to see me while I was in Flagstaff Medical Center recovering from surgery. Thanks to the American Legion Post No. 42 Grand Canyon, to all my veteran friends, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 13 in Williams and all of you who have asked my wife how I am doing now that I am finally home.

Yes, I am very happy to be back on the “saddle again,” but the horse is not moving too fast. Thank you, all my Williams friends. God bless you and I know your prayers were heard.

Seminar needed before chemicals are used in forest

To the editor:

This letter is in regards to the articles on tree mortality and noxious weeds locally.

I feel a need for an information seminar. This way, the public could understand more about the chemicals being used and make educated choices.

I have been researching this subject for 14 years. I have a library of information if needed.

Carbaryl will be used on the oldest, healthiest trees to protect them. How can poison protect anything?

Carbaryl is classified as a pan bad actor. Pan bad actors are chemicals that are one or more of the following: highly acutely toxic, toxic cholinesterase inhibitors, known probable cancer causing, known ground water pollutant, known reproductive and developmental toxicant. Carbaryl just happens to be all of these. This information is on the Internet on Panna’s chemical database.

Carbaryl will be used near all of our water sources. Williams will test the water after the application when it’s too late. There are alternatives to toxic chemicals and if we care about our future, we will find them.

Volunteerism is alive in Williams

What a volunteer community we have. We moved to Williams almost a year ago, commuting between our home in Phoenix and our new home here. We have done several hundred hours of volunteer services over the years, but have never experienced a town coming together for an event like we experienced with the Williams Fifth Annual Easter Egg Hunt.

Just guessing, we estimate 25 percent of the town being involved by donating items, donating hours, volunteering and participating. We are so proud to be part of this community and we hope that everyone in Williams realizes what a great resource we have in each other and keep up the community support.

There were even tourists from Norway — Ryan and CeeCee — that thought they were going to a rodeo and ended up having the time of their lives volunteering at the Easter Egg Hunt. They had their picture taken with the Easter Bunny and probably will cherish that photo over all their other vacation photos.

Many thanks to Diana Croteau for her volunteer hours on this project and keeping us all busy. Thank you, Williams.
