GC basketball teams<br>to host games Saturday<br>

The Grand Canyon High School boys and girls basketball teºams will resume the season Friday at Flagstaff Northland Prep and on Saturday at home against Precision.

Grand Canyon’s Friday trip includes only the boys varsity.

The Phantoms’ home games tip-off at 2:30 p.m., with a boys junior-varsity game. The girls varsity game will follow at 4 p.m., with the boys varsity at 5:30 p.m. There will be no girls JV game.

Grand Canyon played games on Dec. 20 at Seligman and Dec. 21 at Joseph City. Neither head coach could be reached prior to an early deadline over the holiday period for game results.

However, it is known the boys lost to Seligman on Friday, 65-52. The Antelopes turned an 11-7 first-quarter lead into a 28-13 advantage at the half.

The Phantoms closed to within seven points by the end of the third, but Seligman responded in the final frame to post the win.

Grand Canyon sophomore Tempy Walker led the Phantoms with 18 points. Seligman sophomore Brian Majenty led the Antelopes with 16 points.

The following evening, Grand Canyon fell to Joseph City, 56-37. The Phantoms came out strong and trailed the powerful Wildcats by just three points after one quarter. But Joe City went on a 21-6 run in the second and a 15-3 run in the third en route to the win.

The boys’ record goes to 0-4 in the region, 2-7 overall.
