During the period of Sept. 23-29, U.S. Park Rangers at Grand Canyon National Park responded to the following incidents:

Sunday, Sept. 23

o An emergency medical call was taken at Canyon View Marketplace of a 34-year-old man having a seizure. The man was transported to Flagstaff Medical Center.

o An emergency medical call was taken by the train tracks at the West Rim interchange of a 59-year-old woman who suffered a ground-level fall. The woman was transported to Flagstaff Medical Center.

o An emergency medical call was taken just west of Yavapai Observation Station of a 59-year-old woman with a severe bloody nose after she suffered a ground-level fall. The woman was transferred to Guardian emergency services.

o An emergency medical call was taken at the Bright Angel Lodge of a 30-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man who collapsed in the lobby after finishing a hike to Plateau Point and back. Both had symptoms of heat exhaustion and overexertion. The woman was infused with fluids while the man rested. Both were released.

o An emergency medical call was taken about one mile down the Hermit Trail of a 31-year-old man having difficulty. The hiker, who began at Hermit Creek in the morning, was complaining of headache, dizziness, weakness and vomiting. His food and water intake during the day had been minimal. Advanced life support personnel responded and a litter team was staged at the Hermit trailhead. Emergency medical services personnel rehydrated the hiker and assisted him out. The hiker refused further treatment on the rim.

Monday, Sept. 24

o Paris Collins, 30, Grand Canyon, was arrested for disorderly conduct after several requests for him to be quiet. Collins was transported to county jail.

o Rangers responded to a report of a man breaking into his girlfriend’s car on Mohave Street. Upon arrival, the suspect had left and the caller was no longer concerned.

o Danelle Miles, 20, Cameron, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol with an additional charges of minor consumption of alcohol and blood-alcohol content above .10. Miles rolled her vehicle at Desert View Point; there were no injuries reported or observed by Miles or her passenger. Miles was released to a third party.

Tuesday, Sept. 25

o Rangers responded to a report of a possible poaching incident near Desert View. Rangers assisted the Arizona Game and Fish Department and the Coconino County Sheriff’s Department in the investigation.

o Firefighters responded to a structure fire at Amfac’s old "paint shop," a storage building located across from Victor Hall. The building was destroyed by the fire.

o Rangers took a report from employees at the Grand Canyon Post Office of vandalism to the drop ceiling.

Wednesday, Sept. 26

o Rangers responded to a report of a man who fell over the edge at a Yavapai Point overlook. After rangers arrived, it was confirmed that someone had fallen approximately 400 feet. The investigation was continuing (see story, page 1B).

o An emergency medical call was taken at the Bright Angel Lodge of a 27-year-old woman having difficulty breathing. The woman was treated for hyperventilation and refused further assistance.

o An emergency medical call was taken at the back door of Grand Canyon Walk-In Clinic of an adult resident (age, sex not reported) who had fallen. The person refused assistance and was transported by private vehicle to Flagstaff.

o An emergency medical call was taken at Phantom Ranch of a male visitor (age not reported) who had a severe finger laceration. The visitor was transported to Grand Canyon Walk-In Clinic.

Thursday, Sept. 27

o An emergency medical call was taken at Canyon View Information Plaza’s shuttle bus stop of a 54-year-old with chest pain. Medic 8 was driving by during the call and the patient was transported to Grand Canyon Walk-In Clinic.

Friday, Sept. 28

o An emergency medical call was taken at Yavapai (overlook or lodge not indicated) of a 66-year-old man complaining of shortness of breath and dizziness. The man was transported to Grand Canyon Walk-In Clinic.

o Rangers responded to a report of a "grenade sticker" on a light post at Yavapai Point. The sticker had been removed by the time rangers arrived.

o An emergency medical call was taken at Cottonwood Campground of a 62-year-old woman with heat-related symptoms. The woman was flown out and transported to Grand Canyon Walk-In Clinic.

o An emergency medical call was taken on the North Rim of a 62-year-old man with an emergency (cardiac event ruled out). The man was flown from the North Rim to Flagstaff Medical Center.

Saturday, Sept. 29

o An emergency medical call was taken at the El Tovar Hotel of a 27-year-old man with a severe bloody nose. The man was transferred to Medic 8 and later refused further treatment.

o An emergency medical call was taken at the El Tovar Hotel of an 18-year-old man complaining of severe abdominal pain. The man was transferred to Medic 8.

o An emergency medical call was taken at the El Tovar Hotel of a 61-year-old woman complaining of nausea and vomiting. The woman refused treatment.

o An emergency medical call was taken (site not reported) of a 78-year-old woman with a history of cardiac problems complaining of severe chest pain. The woman was transported to Flagstaff Medical Center.

o Rangers responded to a request for assistance from the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office involving a driving under the influence of alcohol arrest at Canyon Pines Trailer Park. The Tusayan man, name not reported, was later released to a third party.

o An emergency medical call was taken at Phantom Ranger Station of a 55-year-old woman injured on a hike. Ankle injury was ruled out. The woman was flown out and transported to Grand Canyon Walk-In Clinic.
