Board OKs CCC learning center lease
A 99 year lease agreement for a Coconino Community College distance learning center at Williams High School was approved by the school board during a special meeting May 31.
“This is going to be a wonderful facility,” said Mike Lainoff, dean of extended learning for CCC. “We’re looking forward to offering services in Williams.”
The facility will be built near the corner of Seventh and Oak streets, beside the visiting team bleachers on the south side of the football field.
“This is going to be awesome,” said Jac Heiss, superintendent of Williams Schools.
Heiss said the proximity to the high school and the architect’s design matching the school were both important issues.
With the board’s approval of the lease, the work should begin soon, Lainoff said.
“Hopefully, we’ll have a ground breaking in August, with a completion date in December, and classes starting in January,” he said.
The passage of the $25 million general obligation bond in November of 1997 for CCC made the distance learning center possible.
“The Williams distance learning facility will be connected via a district-wide video conferencing network to the Flagstaff campuses, the Page campus and the Grand Canyon extension site,” Lainoff said. “The system is first rate. We’re very pleased with the quality.”
The center will also have digital satellite downlink capability, two video displays, 12 multi-media computers in a lab, video conferencing technologies, a site coordinator’s office and a 25-student classroom in an approximately 2,000 square foot building.
The total cost of the project is $415,000.
