Letter: Forest Service restrictions make camping impossible

To the editor:

I am writing to tell you how disappointed I am with the Forest Road closures and lack of dry camping.

My family and friends have been camping in the same spot for 15 plus years and on our first weekend in Williams this year we had a warning sticker on our camper and we were made to move.

We moved all right. Right out of Williams and will likely not return. We are summer campers and come to Williams every weekend from April through October.

We spend lots of money in your community, but because of our great U.S. Forest Service, we will not be returning this year.

Safeway, Eddie's Tire, Pizza Factory, Canyon Motel, Cruisers, Rosa's, 76 Gas, Circle K, Doc Holliday's, Pine Country, McGillicuddy's, Rod's and many other eateries and stores will be losing my and many of our friends and family's business.

What makes this worse is that we studied the map the ranger left and it shows that where we were was open. Even worse, we decided to move our camper and studied the map and realized that any place there is dry camping along the 108 it was restricted.

There are no signs, it would be only guesswork. So we left and we will not return until this is fixed. I understand a lot of you probably are glad to see us gone, but the business will suffer, not to mention how slowly our freedoms in this country are being taken from us.

I am glad I know my tax money is used to support forest rangers who do thier job. It's about time.
