Letter: Medical marijuana dispensary alarms resident

To the editor:

In the Williams News last week was a notice of public hearing that should concern many residents of our community. It stated the city of Williams Planning and Zoning is having a public hearing on Thursday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers regarding having a medical marijuana dispensary at the previously Pouquette Realty building on the corner of Route 66 and Lewis Street. All interested persons may attend and address their comments to the commission/city council.

Also on Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. the city council will act upon the planning and zoning request. You may attend both meetings and express your desire for our community.

This may be your only chance to have the commission and council members realize the direction you want our city to grow.

Ruth Sanzari

Williams, Ariz.

Now this is something on Rt 66 that will really uplift our town and bring in all kinds of happy families and tourist! If you want to see our town really go down the tubes, bring it on! I cannot believe anyone is even considering it! Why dump there money making profit in our town. I can see it now, a family walking down historic RT 66, wide eyed and out pops a pot smoking homeless man. Great! Maybe he'll let me borrow a few for the kids in town! We will have a strug out tourist town. Watch us really loose our businesses. We will have drugs and booze. Wonderful.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I will make it my mission in life to get rid of any local politician who votes in favor of this at the next election. We need a drug dealership in Williams like we need a hole in the head. What a stupid idea.

Ms. Sanzari, you are so right to be concerned!!! Anybody who's watching the news about "medical" marijuana around the country knows that national drug rings hide behind these so-called dispensaries and turn small, quaint towns into hippie havens that attract a dangerous, unsavory element of society. These nasty drug dealers already have been discovered in Arizona! http://www.azfamily.com/news/Cannabis-candy-seized-as-Ariz-authorities-bust-drug-syndicate--170111206.html

Marijuana is a kids' recreational drug, so these drug dealers are preying on our children. SOMEBODY needs to stand up for our communities and kids! Thank you, Ms. Sanzari. Don't give up!
