Editorial: Spring cleanup day crucial in community dependent on tourist dollars
Williams-Grand Canyon News

The city of Williams' annual community spring cleanup day is Saturday. Community participation has been lackluster at recent cleanup events.

We encourage everyone to participate in cleanup day in some way. And everyone doesn't necessarily have to go to cleanup day headquarters at the Visitor Center to participate. Clean up your own yard. Take down those Christmas lights. Help a neighbor. It doesn't take much time or effort to make our community a cleaner, more inviting place to visit.

Williams depends on tourism to survive. First impressions count. Williams is a fantastic place to visit but if we don't keep things clean and tidy, some of the visitors that make their way down Route 66 through town will not return.

Please take an hour out of your Saturday to pitch in. The more volunteers the cleaner Williams will look come Sunday morning.

Cleanup volunteers are asked to report to the Williams-Forest Service Visitor Center parking lot, 200 W. Railroad Ave., at 9 a.m. Williams Clean and Beautiful volunteers will be on hand to direct volunteers to areas needing attention. Free coffee and donuts will be available to all. Arizona Public Service will cruise through town offering soda and water to volunteers. The day ends at noon with a barbecue lunch prepared by the American Legion featuring hamburgers and hot dogs.
