4/9/2013 10:51:00 AM Letter: Veterans Own Chairman gives status report on Williams veterans memorial progress
To the Editor:
Below are some answers to frequently asked questions about the Inspiration Williams Own Veterans Memorial.
Has the management of the memorial fund been eliminated or changed? No. Susan Tamulevich (Weaver) is still the director of Inspirations Inc., the organization that founded the Williams Own Veterans Memorial Fund.
No other group or organization wanted to take on the 501-c-3 tax-exempt corporation except the Williams Masonic Lodge.
Inspirations Inc. copyrighted the Williams Own logo and established a tax-exempt bank account to handle the donations and payouts from that special account. All donations are recorded and go through a local CPA, and all payouts go through the accountant.
I am chairman of the fund. There have been changes in the structure of the committee, and several positions have been eliminated or changed.
How much money has been raised? Is it enough to complete the project? We need approximately $47,000 to pay for the first phase of the project, which is the design, artwork, sculpting of the statue and the bronze plate of the family standing in view of Bill Williams Mountain. The contract with the artist is nearly paid off. We need approximately $15,000 to pay for the complete job he is doing. As soon as the artist is paid, the clay prototype will be sent to the foundry to be cast and completed.
Has the location of the memorial been selected? No, the memorial committee has not chosen a final location, nor have we asked the city of Williams to consider any location yet.
The veterans will select the location of the memorial. We will present final specifications, engineering and design drawings and locations to the council. If these locations are not available or satisfactory, other options will be considered.
Is it true that the dedication for the memorial is July 4, 2013? No. The committee has not set a date yet.
Do we need to continue to raise money for the project? Yes, the money that has been raised so far only pays for the statue and the bronze plate for the wall.
For those who have been fundraising, thank you. We thank the people who have donated large amounts of money anonymously and thank you to John Moore and Bud Parenteau for coordinating with those anonymous donors.
Thank you to the Coconino Board of Supervisors, Findlay Toyota in Flagstaff and others who have helped us raise money. A special thanks goes to all the folks in Williams who have donated, helped raise money and supported this project.
I will be in contact with the veteran's groups to discuss locations for this memorial. Veterans, please participate, this is your memorial.
Please send donations to Inspirations/Williams Own at P.O. Box 1011, Williams, Arizona 86046-1011.
