Virginia "Sister" Docherty

Virginia "Sister" Docherty, 72, passed away at her home Jan. 16, 2014. She was born in Williams, Ariz. on Nov. 14, 1941 to Sipriano Rojo and Carmen Rankin.

Virginia grew up in Williams with her brother, Roy Rojo. She spent much of her childhood exploring the surrounding area of JD Ranch and graduated from Williams High School.

She was married to her sweetheart, Terry Docherty, July 10, 1960 by Father Faustina at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Virginia dedicated many years to serving the public at the Williams Chamber of Commerce, first as a volunteer. She was also co-owner of the Tree House.

Virginia loved being outside in her garden. She spent much of her free time tending to her roses and other flowers surrounding her home. She also loved to sew, creating elaborate clothing and costumes.

Virginia donated her efforts to St. Vincent De Paul, Wounded Warrior Project and other charitable institutions.

She possessed a very caring soul and was giving of her love. If a person was in need, she would give what she could and, at times, literally, gave the shirt off of her back. She deeply enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and teased them with her "love bug" as often as she could.

Virginia is survived by her husband Terry Lee Docherty, her brother Roy Rojo, children Tammy Dietz and Thomas Lee Docherty, grandchildren Jocelyn Pawlicki, Justin and Danielle Yoder and Killian Griffin; great-grandchildren Michael and Morgan Pawlicki, Eric, Robert Jesse, Sky and Ryder Yoder; and one great-grand baby on the way. Her love also survives through her long time friends.

A celebration of her life will take place March 8, 2014 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Afterward friends and family will gather at the American Legion Hall in Williams. Memorials can be sent to Jocelyn Pawlicki, 8373 N. Cedar St., Williams, AZ 86046.

Virginia's family would like to thank all who have given prayers, thoughts and support. Words cannot express the deep appreciation and love felt by those who have extended sympathies. A heartfelt thanks to St. Vincent De Paul, American Legion of Williams and Williams Police and Fire Department.

"Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing." - Mother Teresa
