Two Williams School Board seats up for election
Williams-Grand Canyon News

WILLIAMS, Ariz. - Coconino County Superintendent of Schools Risha VanderWey announced two open positions on the Williams Unified School District (WUSD) Governing Board in the Nov. 4 election.

The WUSD Governing Board has two seats expiring as of Dec. 31, 2014. Albert Parenteau holds one and Alyssa Dennison holds the other as an appointee.

Any registered voter in the state of Arizona who has been a resident of the school district for one year immediately preceding the day of election is eligible to run for these positions. The seats are all four-year terms.

According to VanderWey, an effective board member focuses his/her efforts on serving all children. School board members should make sure every decision or action of the board considers the best interests of all of the students they serve. They understand that board members are entrusted by all of the parents in the community and that no child is more important than another. Board members work to improve schools by building public understanding, trust, support and participation. An effective board member acts with professionalism and integrity as a member of a team.

Interested parties are encouraged to consider this important volunteer office as a true service to the community and its children.

Those who wish to run for this office should contact the Coconino County Superintendent of Schools located in the Ponderosa High School building, 2384 N. Steves Blvd., Flagstaff, AZ 86004 at (928) 679-8070. Nomination packets can be picked up from this office, the WUSD office at 636 S. Seventh St., or can be mailed upon request.

A minimum of 14 signatures must appear on a candidate's petition forms. Candidates must file the petition forms as well as the nomination paper with the Coconino County Superintendent of Schools on, but not before, July 7, 2014, and not after 5 p.m. on Aug. 6, 2014.

It would be nice if this was the standard for running our school district for hired administrators as well.
