Back to School Fair offered Saturday

Back to School Fair coordinator Debbie Calvillo is seeking donations for this year's resource fair to be held at the Williams Senior Center on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

The fair offers free backpacks and school supplies for children K-12 each year, but not without the help of generous contributions. Donations, in the form of backpacks and school supplies, are currently being sought for the fair. Williams Community Services, along with the Williams Alliance, is sponsoring the event.

Parents are encouraged to attend with their children. Children who attend will be given first priority.Immunizations, AZEIP (Arizona early intervention program), Coconino County Sheriff's Office for fingerprinting, C/REC (Coconino Rural Environment Corps) with summer teen job opportunities, and many others will be on hand for the fair.

For more information call Debbie Calvillo at (928) 635-2628. Donations can also be dropped off at the Williams Senior Center, located at 850 West Grant behind the Safeway store.

Register for SOAR Saturday

SOAR (Student Opportunities and Resources) after school program registration will begin at 8 a.m.-noon on Saturday at the Back to School Fair at the Williams Senior Center. After Saturday, packets may be picked up at Williams Elementary-Middle School during regular school registration times.

SOAR is a program of the WEMS that provides academic enrichment, art, dance, physical activities, community speakers and field trips in a safe and fun environment.

This year, all registration packets must be completed and submitted to the SOAR room or office staff by Aug. 7, no later than 2:30 pm, for students to attend SOAR the first week. This first deadline ensures staff time to review packets for completion, assign staff, determine transportation needs and ensure the safety of students the first week of school. Parents will be notified of their child's acceptance into the program on Aug. 8. After the first week of school, students will be admitted on a first come first serve basis.

Contact Patty Everts at 310-8185 or Beth Britton at 635-9645 with questions or concerns.

Kindercamp begins Monday

All students that will be five years of age by Aug. 31 are invited to attend Kindercamp 2007. Kindercamp will be held 9-11 a.m. Monday through Friday in the kindergarten classrooms at the Williams Elementary School.

Kindercamp provides an opportunity to meet the teacher, get to know school and meet new friends. To attend, students must be registered for the upcoming school year.
